Union County/Clemson product Booker lands spot in Summer League

Former Union County and Clemson standout Devin Booker will play for the Washington Wizards' NBA Summer League squad starting with mini-camp Monday-Thursday at their home arena, the Verizon Center.

His older brother, Trevor, just finished his third season with the Wizards, averaging 5.3 points, five rebounds and 16.4 minutes per game. Trevor will not participate. Washington is one of 21 NBA teams that will compete in the annual NBA Summer League games starting July 18 in Las Vegas.

Devin Booker has signed a contract to play for SLUC (Stade Lorrain Universite' Club) Nancy, a professional team in France. The contract has an out-clause should Booker receive an offer to play in the NBA, according to the Union Daily Times. Devin averaged 13.3 points and 7.4 rebounds last season for Clemson.

Among others competing for the Wizards this month are first-round draft pick Otto Porter, the 6-foot-9, 205-pound third overall selection out of Georgetown, and second-round selection Glen Rice Jr., a guard from Georgia Tech. Booker will get a chance to make an impression against 6-foot-9 Chris Singleton and 6-foot-11 Jan Vesely, a pair of second-year big men who both played more than 50 games for the Wizards last season.

Also being added to a summer NBA roster is Greer product LaRon Dendy, who played at Middle Tennessee State. The 24-year-old will play for the two-time champion Miami Heat. He participated for the Wizards in last season's Summer League before going on to play professionally in Greece and Turkey.
